Penny Price Aromatherapy Case Study

Penny Price Aromatherapy is based in Hinckley & Bosworth. They have a total of 13 staff over three departments. They were early adopters of the programme and supported in the pilot of the Healthy Workplaces Leicestershire programme in early 2023.

Penny Price Aromatherapy completed their Workplace Health Needs Assessment (WHNA) in early February. The WHNA was offered to all staff, and they had a successful completion rate of 61.5%.

Following that, a member of the Healthy Workplaces Leicestershire team met with their general manager, Ellie, to discuss their results. Although they are a small team, the report identified areas they were not aware of, and we agreed that the key areas to focus on were:

  • Mental wellbeing
  • Alcohol
  • Physical Activity

In March, Ellie and our team met again to discuss what goals they could deliver to support the areas of focus identified from their WHNA. When deciding on the goals, we also considered the resources and budget that were available to ensure that the goals were achievable and bespoke to them.

Some of the goals identified but not limited to were:

  • Encourage staff to know their numbers through delivering Health MOTs
  • Complete basic Alcohol Awareness Training
  • Train a member or members of staff to become MHFAiders

Once the goals were agreed, Penny Price Aromatherapy then became an accredited 'Engaged' Healthy Workplace.

April 23 – Jan 24

During these months, Penny Price Aromatherapy:

  • Delivered Health MOTs to their staff, these highlighted some underlying health conditions and subsequently resulted in some team members booking in appointments with their GP.
  • Attended the alcohol awareness training and shared this learning with the team. The training provided them with greater confidence and knowledge and allowed them to better support staff.
  • Trained a member of the team to become a Mental Health First Aider. They ensured this was promoted to the team and employees can easily access their support through providing a supportive and non-judgemental environment. They have also updated their staff appraisals to ensure that mental wellbeing is included.

Conclusion:

Throughout these months, Penny Price Aromatherapy uploaded evidence to showcase their dedication. As they have completed all their goals, they are now a 'Committed' Healthy Workplace!

Over the next year, they will be working towards their 'Empowered' accreditation stage, with new goals and targets.

General Manager, Ellie Dunmore, said:

"Healthy Workplaces Leicestershire's help, advice and resources has had a very positive impact on our company, fitting in well with our ethos and culture. The bespoke nature of the assessments has really allowed us to see where we need to focus our attention to support our team most effectively with encouraging results."
